How to set up email on iPhone or Android

If your email account is hosted on our cPanel platform, you can add it to your iPhone or Android device using IMAP.

IMAP keeps your email synchronised with the mail server, which means you can access the same mailbox from multiple devices, such as your computer, phone, and tablet.

Information you will need

Before setting up the account on your device, you will need the following details:

  • Your email address
  • Your mailbox password
  • Your incoming mail server
  • Your outgoing mail server

Your username will be your full email address.

Your password will be the password set for your mailbox.

The incoming and outgoing mail server will depend on which cPanel server your account is hosted on. This is usually in the following format:

nodeX.fast.net.uk

The “X” will be replaced with the number of the server your account is hosted on, for example node30.fast.net.uk or node40.fast.net.uk etc.

If you are unsure which server your email is hosted on, please contact the Fastnet Helpdesk.

When adding the account manually, please use the following settings:

Incoming mail:

  • Account type: IMAP
  • Server: nodeX.fast.net.uk
  • Username: Your full email address
  • Password: Your mailbox password
  • Encryption method: SSL
  • Authentication: Password

Outgoing mail:

  • Server: nodeX.fast.net.uk
  • Username: Your full email address
  • Password: Your mailbox password
  • Encryption method: STARTTLS
  • Authentication: Use the same username and password as the incoming mail server

If your device shows an option such as “use same settings as incoming server” or “use incoming details for outgoing server”, this should be selected.

  11. Complete the setup and allow the app to test the account.

Once added, your mailbox should begin synchronising on the device.

If your device cannot connect

If your iPhone, iPad, or Android device cannot connect, please check the following:

  • The email address has been entered correctly
  • The full email address is being used as the username
  • The password is correct
  • The correct nodeX.fast.net.uk server has been entered
  • SSL is selected for incoming mail
  • STARTTLS is selected for outgoing mail
  • Outgoing authentication is enabled using the same details as incoming mail

If the setup still does not work, please contact the Fastnet Helpdesk and provide the email address you are trying to configure, the type of device you are using, the mail app being used, and any error message shown.
