How to connect your Broadband / FTTP router for the first time

This guide explains how to connect your Zyxel DX3301-T0 router for the first time.

The way the router connects will depend on the type of broadband service you have:

• SoADSL
• SoGEA
• FTTP

Before getting started, make sure you have your Zyxel router, power supply, and the cables supplied with the router.

Connecting the router for SoADSL or SoGEA

For SoADSL and SoGEA services, the router connects using the DSL port on the back of the Zyxel router.

To connect the router:

1. Plug the supplied DSL cable into the DSL port on the back of the router.
2. Connect the other end of the DSL cable to your telephone socket.
3. If your socket is not pre-filtered, use the supplied DSL filter between the telephone socket and the DSL cable.
4. Connect the power supply to the router.
5. Switch the router on.

If your telephone socket is pre-filtered, you should be able to connect the DSL cable directly into the broadband/DSL side of the socket.

If your socket is not pre-filtered, the DSL filter should be connected to the telephone socket first, and the DSL cable should then connect from the filter to the router.

Connecting the router for FTTP

For FTTP services, the router connects to the ONT installed at your premises.

The ONT is the fibre termination box installed as part of your FTTP service.

To connect the router:

1. Plug one end of the supplied Ethernet cable into the WAN port on the back of the Zyxel router.
2. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the active Ethernet port on the ONT.
3. Connect the power supply to the router.
4. Switch the router on.

Once connected, the router should establish a connection using the FTTP service.

Connecting your devices

The Zyxel DX3301-T0 has LAN ports on the back of the router. These can be used to connect devices such as computers, switches, firewalls, or other network equipment using Ethernet cables.

If Wi-Fi has been provided as part of your service, the wireless network details will usually be preconfigured before the router is sent to you.

The image below shows the rear ports on a Zyxel DX3301-T0 router. The key ports for this guide are the DSL port, WAN port, LAN ports, and power socket.

The DX3301-T0 supports both DSL and Ethernet WAN connections, with 4 Gigabit LAN ports and a dedicated Ethernet WAN port.

If the router does not come online

If the router does not come online after being connected, please check the following:

• The router is powered on.
• The DSL cable is connected to the DSL port for SoADSL or SoGEA.
• The filter is being used if your socket is not pre-filtered.
• The Ethernet cable is connected from the WAN port to the ONT for FTTP.
• The ONT has power and shows service lights.
• All cables are firmly connected.

If the service still does not come online, please contact the Fastnet Helpdesk and provide your company name, site address, service reference if known, and a description of the router lights showing on the device.
