Earlier this year we said farewell to our trusty Cisco Catalyst 6500 after years of unwavering service as our core switching engine. This data centre workhorse supported enterprise routing, high-density fibre links, and MPLS edge services.
The Fastnet data centre in Brighton offers hosting and backup services, as well as being part of of our core for Private WAN customers. We’re constantly improving and modernising the data centre, so, while the 6500 had never let us down, it was time to give her a grand send-off and welcome a new era with our new next-generation routing and switching platform.
The Fastnet tech team raised a glass to the 6500’s impressive uptime stats and invaluable contributions to backbone resilience. ChatGPT was asked to compose some heartfelt poems in her honour.
Our engineers are now eagerly anticipating the step change in performance and power efficiency that the new switching platform brings to the table.
