BT have announced they will switch off their copper PSTN phone lines in January 2027. Switching from FTTC to SoGEA as soon as possible will avoid the scramble later on.

FTTP stands for Fibre to the Premises. Fibre optic cables connect your business all the way from Fastnet to your address. FTTP eliminates the distance your data travels over copper.
FTTC stands for Fibre to the Cabinet. Fibre optic cables connect your business from your local exchange to your nearest street cabinet. A copper phone line will then connect you from your address to the street cabinet. By reducing the distance data travels over copper you increase your connection speed.
Standard Broadband or ADSL uses a copper telephone line to transfer data. ADSL is very affordable and is available wherever there is a telephone line. However, BT have announced they are switching off copper phone lines in 2027. If ADSL is all you can get we’ll be able to supply you with an alternative service.
You just need to place an order with us to migrate over to Fastnet. Your losing ISP will automatically receive a cancellation notice. They might take this opportunity to remind you of any other services you hold with them and if you have any time remaining on your contract. Migrations take a minimum of 10 working days.

Traditionally Broadband runs over an analogue phone line. However, technology has moved on, and BT are retiring the PSTN network. This new connection type is called SoGEA (Single order Generic Ethernet Access). A SoGEA connection replaces a copper phone line and removes the ‘old’ analogue phone line element. SoGEA is considered more reliable because it eliminates the voice component and associated frequencies on the line.

A static IP is a public address on the internet. There are a limited number of IPv4 IP addresses. Often a business will have just one public IP address, one static IP for their router and then assign private IP addresses for all the machines inside their network. If you need more we can supply larger blocks of address space. If you would like IPv6 our dual-stack network has you covered.
An upgrade is described as a ‘regrade’ by BT. If you are regrading from one FTTP product to another you’ll be asked to fill out a new order form. This regrade is a system change and typically takes 48 hours. There is no regrade path to an Ethernet Leased Line.
