Ofcom Regulations – Emergency Services?
As part of the Ofcom mandatory industry code, introduced on 29th May 2007, we are required to advise you on access to Emergency Services. This applies specifically to your employees using a phone/softphone client connected to our Hosted VOIP
service in their home environment. The ability to make calls from a home environment, including 999 access, is dependent on their home power supply. In the event of a power failure/interruption;
it will not be possible to make any calls via our service. Our behalf of our provider, as a licensed provider of Telephony Services we also need to advise you that in the event of someone needing to call 999 services using a phone/softphone from home
connected to our network – their location information will normally be shown on our records as being their main place of work e.g. usual office. We are required under our operating licence to provide this location information to the emergency services in the event of a 999 call. This is to assist them when calls are incomplete and address details have not been provided. Your system administrator can update the location information each time an employee changes location.
